Dr. Brian Schwender is an American Board Certified physician in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology & Hepatology. He has been practicing medicine since 2003 in the United States before moving his family to Singapore in 2014. While in Singapore, he was a Consultant working and teaching in both Gastroenterology and Hepatology, at Singapore General Hospital until joining Tucker Medical in the summer of 2017.
With experience beyond general gastroenterology, Dr. Schwender has a special interest in autoimmune diseases of the bowel including Celiac Disease. Throughout his training and clinical experiences, he’s come across many patients with this condition and has been exposed to wide variety of presenting symptoms.
Dr. Schwender is thrilled to be active in the Singapore Celiac community and is interested in helping others have a better understanding of Celiac Disease and how to accurately diagnose this medical condition, which is critical to helping these patients effectively treat themselves.
Dr. Schwender’s ethos is to combine the highest quality individualized patient care with a holistic approach to health. Having now worked both in the United States and Asia, Dr. Schwender has a deeper knowledge of the local, regional, and global medical conditions affecting patients and the experience to help prevent, and not just treat, disease.
Dr. Schwender is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Duke-NUS Medical School. As a member of the Singhealth Internal Medicine Core Faculty, he received numerous accolades, including the Singhealth Internal Medicine Residency Outstanding Clinician Award. Recently, Dr. Schwender was awarded the prestigious title of Fellow of The American Society of Gastroenterological Endoscopy (FASGE) in 2017. He has just been voted Favourite Gastroenterologist Gold Award by Expat Magazine Readers Choice for 2018.
In his personal time, Dr Schwender enjoys spending time with his wife, and their two young children. He’s an outdoor enthusiast enjoying mountaineering, hiking, skiing and golf.
