New gluten free menu now available!
“I hate mexican food” said no one ever.
When it comes to Mexican food, Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant is known for its top notch quality food (and excellent service to boot).
We visited Margarita’s Mexican Restaurant located in Dempsey Hill last week and was pleased to find that they recently developed a gluten-free menu. Although they have been serving gluten free meals for years, they decided to make it easier for those with gluten intolerance or celiac disease by having a menu highlighting items that are safe to order. Additionally, the separate gluten free menu lists items that can also be made dairy free.
That’s not all! Wheat flour is not used in the kitchen as the regular tortillas are made off site. The corn tortillas made up of 100% corn flour. Also, the corn chips, typically served with their amazingly addictive salsa and guacamole, are fried fresh every morning in clean oil minimizing the risk of contamination from pesky gluten particles.
Given that corn and wheat tortillas look similar, Margarita’s has also taken the extra step of using dedicated corn tortilla warmers (dark blue fabric with a yellow diamond emblazoned on the front) and will replace your order if a wrong tortilla it sent.
In terms of dishes to order, we were spoilt for choice and were pleased to find that could order a range of dishes – starters, sides, mains, drinks, and even desserts!
Some recommendations include:
- Corn chips with guacamole, red/green salsa
- Beef and/or Chicken “fajitas” (with corn tortillas)
- Tostado Helado (an awesome dairy free coconut ice cream)
- FROZEN MARGARITAS (can we hear an Amen?)
We recommend making reservations ahead of time indicating how many members of your party are gluten free so as to get the best possible service. It is also recommended to visit earlier rather than later to guarantee fresh and delicious chips (they have been known to run out)
